MVP from The Walking Dead episode 1008 ‘The World Before’
By Sara Large
The midseason finale of The Walking Dead season 10 left viewers on the edge of their seats wanting more. While a few stood out for their bravery only one can wear the crown of MVP!
The midseason finale for season 10 of The Walking Dead ended with a horde of walkers potentially larger than we have ever seen before. The lives of the survivors hang in the balance. With Alpha’s trap pulling off without a hitch we are left to wonder what further plans this villain has for our trapped friends.
Last week I crowned a person MVP who I thought was very selfless. This week I am changing things up a bit and handing it to someone who up until now, followed all the rules and confronted those who didn’t. Someone who went from horrified at even the sight of a walker when we meet them, to a person who had simply had enough, weighed the options and took care of something in the name of their family.
After much deliberation, an MVP was chosen.
This week’s MVP is Father Gabriel!
I want to start with my honorable mentions, which are Judith and Michonne Grimes. Both are some incredible ladies and they showed true bravery with what they did. I can’t imagine it was easy for Judith to leave her mom not knowing if she will make it back and the same for Michonne. If this plan goes well I will have an MVP crown waiting around for Virgil and Michonne in the future!
Now for our MVP of the week Father Gabriel! It’s so hard to imagine that at one point tons of viewers including myself would just shout at our television screen whenever he had any lines at all. Father Gabriel was once possibly the most hated character on The Walking Dead. He went from a guy too scared to kill a walker to a leader in Alexandria and a walker killing machine! We couldn’t be more proud!
The act of killing Dante is something that everyone wanted to see but we weren’t too sure if it was going to happen. Negan Lucilled two people in a lineup and he is still alive, he also made the survivors live in fear of him.
Obviously not to the extreme the Whisperers are doing, but he is still alive. This puts dicey information out on where the line is drawn but currently, fans are doing nothing but rejoicing and who could blame them? So many felt betrayed by Dante and with him gone, it is one less thing to worry about.
This didn’t seem like an irrational decision by Father Gabriel. He likely sat down and weighed all his options and decided this was something he could do to not only make him and everyone else feel better but that little blowback would happen.
Alpha sent a new recruit and with the damage she caused by sending him, combined with the group crossing the border, this sole action of killing Dante wasn’t an action that would start a war. In no way does this death add fuel to Alphas fire, she is likely expecting this mission to be one Dante doesn’t survive.
Father Gabriel sealed the MVP crown during his talk with Dante. It would just be so incredibly easy to be bitter towards Siddiq because he is the father of Rosita’s child. However, he spoke on how much he loved Siddiq like a brother. That his entire family would never be the same. You could see his passion and it was quite admirable. Siddiq was his family and his death was extremely personal to Father Gabriel.
Father Gabriel showing his love for his little family made me feel happy and warm inside despite the dark circumstances. I’m looking forward to him working through his issues and helping Rosita with hers. I’m hoping this leap in his character can become a positive step forward and he becomes an even better leader. I am very interested in where he goes from here! The back half of season 10 couldn’t come fast enough!
