Overall Impression!

I hate to say it, but this episode didn’t feel very fresh. It left a lot of questions up in the air from the first half of the season and then ended with the same kind of scene fans got before all the walkers that invaded Alexandria were eliminated.

That’s not to say this is a bad episode. Just because something is familiar doesn’t mean it’s not good. There were plenty of great character development scenes, including individuals who haven’t gotten a lot of screen time yet in season 10. And that was refreshing to see.

The story was cohesive, but there were also characters who acted a bit out of character. Father Gabriel murdering Dante and everyone seemingly being okay with it is interesting because he seemed like the voice of reason in the community. With him acting spontaneously in anger like that, it really puts his relationship with Rosita into question…but even she seems alright with what happened, even after their fight.

Interestingly enough, the previous episode felt a bit more like a midseason finale, but it’s nice that the show doesn’t follow such a strict formula that viewers can expect certain things from certain episodes based on the air dates.

I guess I got left wanting a little more. And that can be a good thing when not talking about exploring narratives to figure out why characters like Gabriel, Aaron, Michonne, and others can flip their feelings about situations off and on at will.

Still, it was a solid episode that works as a midseason finale, but it also means the installments after the break will have some work to do to pick up the pace and tie everything together.

EPISODE GRADE: 8.2
