The trailer for the back half of season 10 of The Walking Dead was full of shocks and teases galore, including a scene showing what looks like estranged partners Carol and Ezekiel in an intimate moment. Are the King and Queen on the path to reconciliation?

It seems like The Walking Dead season 10b is going to give us much to chew if the trailer is anything to go by, and while the focus might be on the epic quest to end Alpha the trailer also showed some intrigue in the relationships between Carol and Daryl, Eugene and Rosita, and perhaps surprisingly, Carol and Ezekiel.

A quick flash in the trailer shows what appears to be an intimate moment between the pair whose marriage dissolved at the end of season 9. The clip shows Carol moving towards Ezekiel who sits on the edge of a bed, and has fans wondering if this is a grand reunion for the former monarchs of the Kingdom?

It was after Alpha’s violent murder of their son Henry that their fairy-tale marriage hit the rocks. Ezekiel noticed the way his wife seemed to be turning to her friend Daryl for support, and went so far as to asking him to give them space. However, as it turned out, it was Carol was gave Ezekiel space as she decided that the fairy-tale was over and ended their marriage. Whilst Ezekiel moved to Hilltop, Carol returned to Alexandria and things have been fraught between them ever since.

Even when the former couple met at Siddiq’s funeral they passed nothing more than pleasantries before Carol headed off on her mission, so it begs the question what changes to create this intimate moment?

We know Carol is in a very dark place at the moment, with even Daryl – the person closest to her – seeming unable to reach her. It seems unlikely at the midst of her rage and revenge that she’d let down the walls she’s been building up since Henry’s death, and look to rebuild her marriage particularly when she is constantly on the verge of flight.

However, it’s feasible to imagine that a Carol who appears to be struggling with how to express her emotions healthily, may fall back on an old crutch to help her through.

Certainly many people have fallen into a foolish dalliance with an ex during a time of emotional turmoil. Something Carol is certainly experiencing, especially as the trailer seems to suggest a strain in her normally unshakable relationship with Daryl.

Of course, it’s also possible that the teaser trailer is leading us astray, and the scene which seems intimate is something much more innocent in nature.

With Siddiq dead, and Michonne gone, Ezekiel’s confidantes about his suspected thyroid cancer have vanished. It is very possible he finally manages to let Carol in on his secret, and this scene is nothing more than Carol examining his neck, or showing concern for a troubled, ill man she once loved.

Given Ezekiel’s current state of mind, it’s easy to see how much he needs to talk to his ex-wife, in order to put to rest both the ghost of their marriage and that of their dead son.

Hopefully this scene provides them that opportunity so that they can move on and create a new healthy relationship as ex-partners, and that it doesn’t put that tenuous relationship on an even rockier course.
