Will Eugene and Rosita follow their comic counterparts in the second half of The Walking Dead season 10 or is this another case of misdirection?

The Walking Dead season 10 midseason finale has come and gone leaving fans to face the dread 3 month hiatus.  At least we got a trailer for the second half of the season to tide us over.

Slight comic spoilers ahead!

One of the quick shots in the trailer was an interesting flash of the ever lovely Rosita (Christian Serrano) and her erstwhile wannabe suitor Eugene (Josh McDermott).

For non-comic readers, Eugene and Rosita were a couple in the comics until her untimely death at the hands of Alpha. Some things played out on the show similar to the comics, namely Siddiq being the biological father of the child Rosita was carrying when she died.

On the show, it was obviously different. Rosita is with Gabriel but Siddiq and Eugene are very much a part of the family unit.

The shot in question shows Eugene and Rosita in what could be seen as a prelude to a kiss.

I have questions!

Is Rogene going to be an actual thing?

What about Gabriel?

Is it another misdirect or tease?

Is it going to be like the Michonne/Ezekiel kiss and just a nod to the comics?

Personally, I have always found Rosita and Father Gabriel to be a bit dull and for the life of me can’t figure out why the show went there, it’s strange that I feel none of the chemistry between them like I did with Rosita and Siddiq.  That being said, I can appreciate Rosita making her own choices and there have been moment that were sweet between Gabriel and Rosita

Eugene has carried a year’s long torch for the strong independent Rosita. For her part, Rosita made it clear in episode 6 that it was never gonna happen, yet in episode 7 she talks to him and asks when he’s coming home.

I know there has been a stalker quality at times to Eugene’s love for Rosita and I find those parts creepy, but there is no denying there is a bond between these two. Be it familiarity based on their long association, a friendship or a realization of actual romantic feelings there is something to this couple.

However it turns out, I know a couple fans who are rooting for this couple and I am looking forward to seeing where this goes when The Walking Dead returns.
