Do you trust Virgil to go with Michonne on The Walking Dead?
By Adam Carlson
Virgil claims to have access to weapons that would make war against the Whisperers easy, but can Michonne trust him in season 10 of The Walking Dead?
Sadly, fans already know that Michonne is making an exit from the world of The Walking Dead. It’s been talked about for a long time and even confirmed by Danai Gurira, the actress who has played Michonne since the character’s introduction in the final moments of season 2.
Over the years, Michonne has become a major player on the AMC show, earning the trust of others around her and making tough decisions, eventually becoming the leader of Alexandria after the exit of Rick Grimes.
Now, Michonne is making the tough choice to go with a new character named Virgil in hopes of getting enough firepower to defend their home against an ocean of walkers as well as Alpha and the Whisperers.
But can Michonne trust Virgil? And should fans trust him? We asked that question to our panel of The Walking Dead experts!
Joe says
While I would love to trust Virgil and hope that his promises of having plenty of weapons to defeat the Whisperers are true, the past season and a half have made me – and most of the survivors – very wary of trusting strangers. Virgil made it clear that all he wants to do is get back to his family no matter what. So is it possible that he lied about the weapons in order to get home quicker? I have a feeling that the offer Virgil made won’t turn out to be as perfect Michonne thinks it is.

As with any new character that is introduced, I find myself being extra cautious of them until they fully prove that they are one of us. Virgil’s story seems to be harmless enough, but we just learned from Dante that even people we think we can trust can end up being bad. I’m very interested to see where it is that Virgil takes Michonne to and I hope she is successful on this mission, but it all seems a bit too easy right now. There has to be some sort of catch and I’m worried Michonne is sailing right into dangerous territory.

I think Virgil is trustworthy but the people he is with are not. I believe he genuinely only wanted to go back to his family, I don’t think he was sent as bait to bring people back. But I suspect the helicopter people are somehow involved in the island where he is and once there Michonne will discover some evidence about Rick.

There’s a part of me that wants to trust Virgil but there’s a larger part of me that is suspicious of strangers. I was surprised Michonne seemed to trust him so easily with her experiences with strangers (and sometimes friends). He kind of reminds me of season 1 Rick looking for his family, but at the same time, we know Alpha has planted a spy in at least Alexandria and possibly the other communities. I guess I just don’t know enough about Virgil (at least the AMC version) to say I trust him. I sure wouldn’t go anywhere with him alone after having just met him.

Virgil definitely made the right moves to get someone to trust you. He saved someone’s life and didn’t stick around for a ‘thank you” only to follow it up with a great sob story about wanting to get back to his family. Add in Judith hurting him and you’ve built up a lot of potential for pity.
If this is a move to get Michonne separated from the other survivors, it is absolutely genius. That said, I think it’s a bit much for even a great manipulator, and for that reason, I’d believe him more than I’d be skeptical of him. So, that’s a good start!
Would you have trusted Virgil enough to set sail alone with him in hopes of getting weapons? Or would you have hesitated to make that bold of a move? Let us know your opinion on this tough The Walking Dead decision in the comments section!
