Which Star Wars characters would these The Walking Dead favorites be?
By Joe LaBrosse
Daryl Dixon and Han Solo
It’s a classic character trope, but it works perfectly almost every time: the rugged scoundrel that acts like he doesn’t care about anyone or anything but deep down has a heart of gold.
At the beginning of both of their stories, Han Solo and Daryl Dixon’s loyalty was questionable at best. But, at the end of the day, both end up doing the right thing to help those that they hate to admit they care about.
For Han, this moment came when he seemingly abandoned the Rebellion in its time of need after he got paid for rescuing Princess Leia from the Empire. Han always said that he was only in it for the money, but at the last moment, he returned to save his friend, Luke, allowing the Rebellion to destroy the Death Star and making Han a hero in the process.
Daryl’s heart of gold first creeps out during the search for Sophia in season 2. While some of the group – most notably Shane – want to give up looking for Carol’s lost daughter, Daryl goes out into the woods to search for her every single day. Despite his rough and cold demeanor, Daryl puts his life on the line to find Sophia, go so far as to near die when impaled by a branch while looking.
The characters also share a similarity in terms of how they deal with devastating losses in their life. When Han realized that his son Ben had fallen to the dark side and taken charge of the villainous First Order, he retreated into his old life of smuggling rather than trying to come to terms with the situation with his wife, Leia, and best friend, Luke. Daryl also reverts back to his former self after his “brother” Rick’s disappearance, choosing to live in seclusion with Dog rather than cope with the loss alongside Carol, Michonne, and his other friends and loved ones.
Neither character is the perfect hero that does everything right, but there’s a reason both Han and Daryl are fan favorites.
