The Walking Dead bows for the holidays in November or early December, but after ten seasons is it time to see a holiday celebration on AMC’s zombie show?

Holiday specials are a cornerstone of television. Most shows, both in America and abroad, will feature a special holiday episode. The Walking Dead is on hiatus over the holidays, but it would be fascinating to see what a holiday celebration in the zombie apocalypse would look like.

The first question you might ask is: WHY? Why would we need a holiday episode of The Walking Dead?

Well, why not?

After ten seasons and well over 100 episodes, we tend to see the same time of year over and over again, save for a major drought and a harsh winter storm. The closest we have seen to a celebration at this point was the ill-fated faire at the Kingdom. Threats from the Whisperers aside, the communities had been enjoying a relatively prosperous period during the various time jumps and it’s reasonable to assume that holiday celebrations might work their way back into the mix to help people remember what they’re fighting for.

Granted, there might not be much reason to celebrate in the middle of a zombie apocalypse. But certainly after so much time has passed some of the old traditions must surely be observed again. There’s no real way to gauge the actual date (unless someone has encountered the atomic clock in Boulder, Colorado) so birthday celebrations aren’t very likely. However, the changing seasons help to reflect the passage of time each year and so it would be possible to have a holiday celebration somewhere in the middle of winter.

With so many people who have come together in the communities, a holiday celebration on The Walking Dead would reflect numerous religions represented among the residents. It’s safe to say that a new holiday tradition, similar to Thanksgiving in the United States, might even be a way to bring everyone together in a new holiday for a new era.

In addition to creating a time for people to come together and celebrate, which is what the holidays are all about, fans would have a chance to see what the holidays would look like in a zombie apocalypse. Would there be decorated trees? A turkey? Makeshift menorahs and candles for Kwanzaa? A pole, feats of strength and the airing of grievances?
