2019 is almost over and it’s time to make resolutions for The Walking Dead characters in the New Year. Here’s what Beta needs to do in 2020.

Beta’s big debut came in the second half of The Walking Dead season 9 as the survivors came to realize that something evil was lurking in the woods. Alpha and her horde had moved in, and Beta was there to be her supreme enforcer. The survivors are planning a comeback in 2020, though, so here are the things Beta needs to do in the New Year in order to survive.

Show No Mercy

Ryan Hurst is such a sweet guy, but he plays Beta with a gleeful abandon that is so much fun to watch. Unlike Alpha, who allows a glimpse of sympathy to slip through from time to time, Beta is utterly relentless and without remorse.

After his fight with Daryl, he has something to prove and he won’t be satisfied until Daryl’s head is on a pike. If Beta is going to make it out of the Whisperers War alive, then he needs to show no mercy.

Surrender Or Die

Beta is a smart guy. He might not have a lot to say, but he sees what is going on between Negan and Alpha. No matter what Alpha says, and no matter what he does, there’s no way he will ever trust someone like Negan.

With the interloper in their midst, Beta must remain on guard. There’s no telling what his true intentions are, and that makes him a threat. The reality is that the Whisperers are facing a group of people who do not back down, no matter what. That means that when push comes to shove, they will be ready to fight to the bitter end and if Beta is captured he doesn’t stand a chance of surviving. Not anymore.

Beta will need to give everything he has to protect his way of life. Surrender is not an option. It’s all or nothing.

Kill The Head So the Body May Live

Beta is no one’s fool. Though he’s totally devoted to Alpha, he is also devoted to the horde and the Guardians. He knows that Alpha is upset about Lydia after seeing the shrine she built for her daughter. He has no idea that Lydia is still alive, and when he learns of Alpha’s betrayal it will surely be upsetting to him.

Though he resides in Alpha’s shadow, Beta knows that the Whisperers will fall apart if faith in Alpha is ever lost. She rules with an iron fist, with immediate consequences for any actions that fall out of line. If their people were to find out that she lied about Lydia, it could cause them to unravel.

Given his devotion to the dead, if push comes to shove it could be Beta who delivers the fatal blow to Alpha if that is what is needed to preserve the supremacy of the dead. By killing Alpha, it would make him the new leader and it would give him the legitimacy he needs to keep the Whisperers going rather than lose everything they have built over the years.
