Who died in season 2 episode 1 of The Walking Dead?

Which characters didn’t make it out of the season 2 premiere of The Walking Dead titled “What Lies Ahead” and what other major things happened?
The first season of The Walking Dead had an explosive conclusion with the CDC eliminating all the research, specimens, and even some life forms as the main group of survivors left in search of a new way of living among the undead.
In this episode, the group made the trip outside Atlanta and begins the search for a new place to live or a group to become a part of. By this point, Rick Grimes still hasn’t given up on getting in touch with Morgan Jones and Duane but the calls have become less frequent.
Hoping that Morgan and his son are still alive, Rick and the survivors attempted to exit on the freeway but ran into an impasse filled with automobiles and walkers. The obstacles were piling up and the threat of death was absolutely real.
Here is who didn’t make it out of season 2 episode 1 of The Walking Dead titled “What Lies Ahead” on Oct. 16, 2011:
- Walkers
- A deer
Thankfully, no human beings were killed in this episode, but there were plenty of occasions where life could have been lost. Walkers were killed using rocks, knives, and other weapons, but not guns since they would draw more attention from the undead.
Sadly, this episode was highlighted by the disappearance of Sophia Peletier. The daughter of Carol ran into the woods to escape walkers and was hiding in a spot where Rick instructed her to, but the zombies chased her away from that spot and the group couldn’t seem to track her down.
Plus, a deer in the clearing mesmerized Carl but before the young man could get close enough or Shane shot it, a gunshot rang out and Rick’s son fell to the ground, bleeding from his chest.
Thankfully, neither Carl or Sophia died in season 2 episode 1 of The Walking Dead but their future was definitely up in the air when the final credits rolled on this installment of the hit AMC zombie drama.
