Jayson Warner Smith, who played Gavin in The Walking Dead series has won a BroadwayWorld Atlanta Award for Best Actor in a Play for his work on OUR TOWN / THE LARAMIE PROJECT.
Jayson Warner Smith, who portrayed Gavin on The Walking Dead has been very busy is since he left the series. He has been active in many other projects including the stage productions of Out Town/The Laramie Project. Fans will be excited to see that their votes did not go in vain and he won the BroadwayWorld Atlanta Award for best actor in a play (professional) for his work on those stage productions.
Near the end of 2019, the nominees were announced for the BroadwayWorld Atlanta Awards and fans could vote for their favorites. Many Walking Dead fans took to social media to encourage others to vote for Smith. We would like to extend our congratulations to Smith for receiving this award.
Below is a post that Smith shared on his Instagram upon the closing night of Our Town/Laramie Project.

Our Town and The Laramie Project shared the same acting company which allowed the public to see the diversity of these actors. Our Town tells the story of the citizens of a fictional American town between the years of 1901 and 1913. The Laramie Project tells the story of the aftermath of the murder of 21-year-old Matthew Shepard in and around Laramie, Wyoming.
In an interview with Arts Atl Smith said:
"“If I could do nothing but theater for the rest of my life and make the kind of money I make in television, I’d do only theater, I love the side benefits and perks of being on television and making films. They treat you like royalty. But the actual acting part of being on camera doesn’t even come close to the acting in theater.”"
Even though Smith played one of the despised Saviors on The Walking Dead, fans were very sad to lose him. His death was awesome and Smith has said that it was a wonderful death for his character.
His upcoming projects include The Evening Hour, which is an adaptation of Carter Sickels’ novel, and the ABC drama Salvage, in which he stars along with Jim Belushi and Will Patton.
Once again, congratulations to Smith for his BroadwayWorld Atlanta Award for Best Actor in a Play and we can’t wait to see what else is in store for him.
