The second TWD spinoff The Walking Dead: World Beyond finally has a premiere date and a surprise twist.

Fans already knew that The Walking Dead: World Beyond was expected to debut in April but today the actual premiere date was revealed to be April 12th. That’s the same night as the finale of The Walking Dead season 10 so World Beyond will likely air after the season 10 finale. The premiere date was announced in an intriguing tweet.

If The Walking Dead World Beyond is only going to run as a limited two season series this could be the start of the franchise beginning to play with different formats for telling stories of the apocalypse. In a recent interview Scott Gimple said that the creative team was going to be looking into using different formats like limited series, movies, and more to delve deeper into the apocalypse world and tell more stories.

With a limited series and a concrete end in sight from the beginning World Beyond would have a totally different narrative feel than The Walking Dead and Fear The Walking Dead, both of which have undergone transitions but have no real end in sight. It would be an exciting way to see more stories of survival in that world and it would be a very interesting way to tie together other stories that cross throughout the shows that are set in the universe.

It was mentioned that the survivors in World Beyond are from one community that is part of a collective of three communities. Will there be a two season limited series showing life in each community and how they intersect with each other and with TWD and Fear TWD? The possibilities are very interesting.

The Year Of The Dead

The arrival of TWD World Beyond will kick off nearly a year of seeing TWD every week. World Beyond will arrive on the same night as TWD finale, and it’s safe to assume that the Fear The Walking Dead season 6 premiere will arrive either on midseason break or on the night of the finale of World Beyond, and then Fear will continue until The Walking Dead season 11 premieres. There could be a week off here or there but fans are going to be able to be almost fully immersed in the world of the Dead this year.
