AMC’s official Walking Dead Instagram account have released an exciting new teaser clip of Daryl, which may be from the mid-season premiere.
The previously unseen clip from The Walking Dead 10B shows Daryl out of the cave that the group searching for Alpha’s herd found themselves trapped in at the end of the mid-season finale. Daryl appears to be taking cover while he watches many walkers shamble out of the darkness into the woods.
While it may not be a huge surprise to find that Daryl has survived the cave ordeal, it’s thrilling to have his escape confirmed, and it looks like he’s not alone. As Daryl crouches down to hide from the throng of walkers, we can see the hand of a person sitting behind him, holding a stick. This seems to suggest that at least Daryl and one other person makes it out of the cave alive and unharmed, but what of the others – Carol, Jerry, Aaron, Magna, Kelly and Connie?
Has Daryl gone ahead to lead the walkers out of the cave and let the others escape? Have the others escaped first and Daryl and his companion are last, with the walkers close on their heels? Or are Daryl and his mystery friend the only survivors? Is Daryl’s companion holding a weapon or a walking stick to aid with an injury?
The teasers AMC have posted so far have posed many questions, besides that of who will survive, as did the events of the mid-season finale themselves. Will Daryl blame Carol for their predicament, and any casualties that occur, after all it was Carol chasing Alpha that led them into the cave? Will Carol realise that her single-mindedness was read so easily by Alpha that Carol played right into her hands? Who is running at Magna in the caves, and where did they come from? Will Jerry be able to squeeze his bigger frame through tight tunnels? Does any of the group have a crippling claustrophobia that will come into play?
The 10b trailer already showed the group seem to be making their way through tunnels in the cave in an attempt to escape Alpha’s horde, so it seems this plan works for at least two survivors. However, we also saw Alpha walking away from the cave looking satisfied. Could they be escaping from one trap just to walk in the other?
We also still don’t know what part Gamma played in getting Daryl and the others into that cave. Was she used by Alpha unknowingly, or has she been playing Aaron?
Hopefully all these questions will be answered in episode 9 when The Walking Dead airs on Sunday, February 23, and no matter what happens in the cave, there’s no doubt that the fight with Alpha is far from over.
