The world is mourning the loss of an NBA legend as news broke on Sunday morning of the death of 41 year old Kobe Bryant and his daughter Gianna in a helicopter crash in Calabasa, California. As shock slowly gives way to grief, several members of The Walking Dead cast paid tribute to Bryant and his incredible legacy.
As news of the tragedy broke, it served as a big reminder to enjoy every moment because tomorrow is never a guarantee.
Khary Payton talked about the importance of embracing every day to its fullest:
Jeffrey Dean Morgan heard the news as he was preparing for a trip:
Norman Reedus paid tribute to Kobe with a photo on his Instagram page and a heart, while Fear the Walking Dead star Danay Garcia posted a tribute on her Instagram, noting that Bryant and Gianna’s loss is “so painful” and that “you will always be our forever black mamba & little angel girl.” Jenna Elfman lamented their losses as “unimaginable” and included one of Bryant’s quotes in her tribute.
Several NBA teams paid tribute to Bryant on Sunday, with a touching moment of silence at a Denver Nuggets game. The Toronto Raptors and San Antonio Spurs agreed to let the shot clock run out at 24 seconds to celebrate Bryant’s number.
Bryant played his entire 20 year career for the Los Angeles Lakers, notching 18 NBA All-Star titles and five NBA championship titles leading up to his retirement in 2016. He also won an Oscar for his animated short Dear Basketball, a tribute to his love of the sport.
After his retirement, Bryant started showing up in the stands with his daughter Gianna, 13, who started playing basketball with her father as a coach. The duo could be seen in video snippets sitting court side discussing the games, both with huge smiles on their faces.
