Eugene Porter has contributed to great changes for the survivors on The Walking Dead. He has plans coming in full effect that can change everything for the second half of season 10 and beyond.

The first half of Season 10 of The Walking Dead has shown how the survivors evolved as a community. It was clear that Eugene was looking for ways to continue to make life easier for his fellow survivors. His plan to strengthen their communication infrastructure to reach new survivors and perfect communication between the communities was his ultimate goal.

During the episode “Lines We Cross” there was a disaster with a fallen satellite that caused a fire. The communities had to come together to put out the fire, they also had to take out walkers around the area. Eugene saw the fallen satellite as a radioactive gold mine.

Eugene obviously had something else in mind when he convinced Michonne to take parts of the satellite with them after the fire. It was an odd decision that Eugene was so fascinated by the satellite and Luke certainly had valid points about not tinkering with it.

By the episode “Bonds”, Eugene has used satellite parts to enhance the communication system. He had a conversation with Rosita, but the system malfunctioned and forced Eugene to cut the conversation short.

The survivors just fought a fire up to this point and dealt with herds of walkers plus a fallen wall. The last thing they needed was to fight another fire from a malfunctioned system. It is still a hazard and if not adjusted properly could blow up the whole system.

The truth is that Eugene is trying to change the game for the survivors with better communication between the communities. This will also make it so they can contact new survivors from a distance, as opposed to meeting out in the open with a high risk of being trapped by walkers.

Eugene was willing to take the risk and expanded his search for anyone. He had an extensive conversation with an unknown woman. He had no idea where this person was or if she could be a  threat.

There is potential to meet someone good like Siddiq or find someone with malicious intent like Dante. Those two possibilities and not meeting face to face first raises the risk rate when it comes to interacting with strangers. With threats and enemies constantly evolving, Eugene may be taking one of the biggest risks in history of The Walking Dead.

The reasoning for Eugene breaking security protocol may have a lot to do with the Whisperers. The Whisperers are constantly out in the open, and Eugene may have an idea to gather people to keep them from being caught by the Whisperers. More people are unsafe than they ever been before and Eugene may be looking to save people.

If that’s his intention, it will be something that may be good for the community or something else to fear. No matter the results, there will be a lot of discussion among the respective counsels about what Eugene has done.

Eugene will face a big test of trust from his first interaction with an unknown stranger and is facing uncertainty. Not everyone will be on board for whoever Eugene may find and it may have consequences. Stay tuned to see it all unfold when the second half of the season of The Walking Dead returns February 23rd on AMC.
