5) The Downright Crazy

Whether it’s because they were already disturbed before the outbreak began, or became so by what they saw or did after the apocalypse happened, you can rest assured that there will be people in the zombie apocalypse who are, in layman’s terms, crazy.

Now, I’m just talking “eccentric”, I’m talking warped, abominable, and, most especially, violent.

While the hostiles we’ve seen in The Walking Dead are, obviously, fictional, the fact remains that, just because they’re characters doesn’t mean that people who may mirror their behaviors couldn’t exist if a zombie apocalypse did happen.

Think of all the worst behaviors imaginable, remember that, in the apocalypse, there are no laws, and then remember that, if you can think of these things, so can somebody else. Rape, torture, murder, cannibalism, sadly, the sky’s the limit for just how warped and depraved people might become.

How to avoid them?

This…is a tricky one. While the true crazies may not emerge (Or even, necessarily, exist) at the beginning of the outbreak, as time wears on, the chances increase that people will become citizens of Crazytown. With all the horror, chaos, violence, and death they’re likely to see in the apocalypse, the fact it will break some people shouldn’t come as too much of a shock.

What makes it worse is that many (Especially early on) may look no different from anyone else, and you have to actually see what they’re up to before you can know just how messed up they are.

That said, the further along you go, the more likely that those who have truly gone off the deep end will forget any notions of stealth, and just be blatant with their insanity.

Whether the crazies are obvious or not, this is where establishing a strong base and arming oneself can prove quite useful.

If you can hold up in something like a military installation or a bunker or similarly secure building, barring getting a nuclear weapon, there will be little that the crazies can do that you can’t have an answer for.

Sometimes, the only way to avoid people is to ensure that it’s impossible for them to get to you.
