3) Carol and Ezekiel

As Carol so aptly put it in the season 9 finale, her marriage to King Ezekiel was a “fairytale.”

It took a while for Ezekiel to break down Carol’s emotional walls she put up after all the trauma she endured in the first 6 seasons of the show, but eventually he was able to reach Carol in a way that nobody else had. With Ezekiel and their newly adopted son Henry, Carol was finally happy – something she had not been in a long, long time.

The two stayed together throughout the entirety of the season 9 timejump, spending those 6 years raising Henry and taking care of the Kingdom. Carol became comfortable with her new family, even growing her hair out for the first time because she finally felt safe again.

That little detail epitomizes my favorite part of the Carol and Ezekiel relationship. Whether you like them together or not, it is undeniable that Ezekiel (and by extension Henry) gave Carol exactly what she needed at a time where she was losing herself.

Unfortunately, their relationship came to a screeching halt after the death of Henry at the hands of Alpha and the Whisperers. Their son’s death drove them apart, with both blaming themselves for his loss. The season 10B trailer seems to hint that the two are not completely done with each other, however, so it remains to be seen what the future hold for the former King and Queen of the Kingdom. My fingers are crossed that they can once again rely on each other, this time to come to terms with the death of their son.
