The Walking Dead: Ranking the best couples
By Joe LaBrosse
1) Glenn and Maggie
The Walking Dead‘s best ever couple are a duo whose love story warmed the hearts of millions of fans for the entirety of the five seasons they shared together.
When you look at social media and the constant “shipping” wars, you will very rarely, if ever, see anything bad said about Glenn and Maggie. Their love for each other was so genuine and pure that nobody who watches the show can deny how special their connection was.
The chemistry between Glenn and Maggie was clear from the start. From that moment in the pharmacy to Glenn’s sheer will and strength to protect Maggie from the Governor’s abuse, it’s clear that the two characters were meant to be. Every time I watch the scene when Glenn and Maggie reunite in the cave after being separated during the prison fallout, I can’t help but tear up. The way the two passionately embrace and promise never to leave each other again shows their undeniable bond and love for one another.
No matter the challenges they faced, Maggie and Glenn stayed loyal to one another. After they were captured and tortured in Woodbury, the two argued about their feelings from the traumatic experience. Even when they fought, both knew that they still loved each other and wanted to be together. In fact, soon after that fight, Glenn asked Hershel for permission to marry his daughter.
The horrific way that Glenn perished right in front of a pregnant Maggie was gut-wrenching, and while I understand that the scene is pulled straight from the comics, both characters deserved better than that.
At least Glenn’s legacy will carry on through his son Hershel and Maggie, who is returning at some point in season 10.
