Theory: Gamma chose Alpha over Adam.

So, this is the other side of my theoretical conundrum; Where the first half had Alpha as the mastermind, this one gives more of the credit to Gamma.

Now, I’ll admit, this theory sort of, indirectly, makes the trap part of Alpha’s larger plan, but, bear with me on this.

In this scenario, I think that, while Gamma was completing her mission as a double-agent, there is more to the trap being set than simply her following orders. I think that, upon realizing that Lydia was still alive, Gamma was now truly presented with a choice: Abandon the Whisperers and maybe try to live some semblance of a normal life with her nephew, or, show her loyalty to Alpha in spite of the revelation, and let her know what was coming. If I’m right, she chose the latter.

Whether this was entirely out of loyalty or out of fear, I’m not quite sure, though, I feel like one is just as likely as the other. With Gamma already having seen Alpha garrote a woman’s head off for challenging her, the idea of the double-agent being intimidated or otherwise made to fear the consequences of betrayal does not seem far-fetched.

But, assuming it was out of loyalty, this would mean that Gamma is a perfect double-agent, able to feign concern for and desire to see her nephew perfectly, yet, the whole time, be planning to stand by the boss, regardless. Actually, if this is the case, it’s mildly chilling that Gamma can fake such things so well, even doing so while believing herself completely alone. That sort of commitment to her cover would be almost admirable if it weren’t for the fact it would mean she was a psychopath, with no attachment to the only family she has left.

There is one lingering question which leaves me curious: If Gamma betrayed the group out of loyalty to Alpha…what about Lydia? I mean, she saw Lydia, so…how does she reconcile that? Clearly, Alpha’s been lying to the entire group. Does she just ignore that? Or, is this part of a larger play that Gamma’s running against Alpha? Is she planning on letting Alpha wipe out the communities, and then, tell the rest of the Whisperers Alpha lied about killing Lydia? To what end? To take over? I’m not sure yet…

But, what do you guys think? Do you think Alpha has just been two steps ahead of everyone from the get-go? Do you think Gamma betrayed the group at the last minute? Do you think Gamma has a larger plan with her knowledge about Lydia? Let me know! I’m very curious!
