Beta has been Alpha’s loyal follower since the very beginning, but will there be a shift in their relationship moving into The Walking Dead season 10B?

Alpha is the kind of leader who rules with an iron fist on The Walking Dead, and Beta is her most loyal follower. However, if the first half of season 10 taught us anything, it’s that Beta is loyal to the Dead even more. If Alpha’s actions put the undead Guardians in danger, will Beta be able to stay loyal to her?

Beta is the kind of person who values stability. Clearly he came from a place where he didn’t have a lot of stability, and Alpha was able to offer that to him and give him the direction he needed to survive in the new world. Even though Lydia was there when Alpha and Beta first met, and even though Lydia is Alpha’s daughter, Beta is loyal to Alpha and doesn’t question her decisions with her daughter.

The only thing that trumps Beta’s loyalty to Alpha is his dedication to the dead. If Alpha hadn’t sought shelter at the treatment facility when she did, it is easy to imagine that he would still be there communing with the dead. He was already thriving among them and he gave no indication that he wanted to leave.

Beta is already on edge because the Whisperers have never questioned Alpha as much as they have since arriving in Alexandria. Sure, she does a good job getting them to fall back in line, but there’s no mistaking Beta’s frustration that it’s happening at all.

He doesn’t know that Lydia is alive and he is not happy about the faith Alpha has in Gamma or the way she allows Negan to be Negan. This is uncharted territory for Beta and when people are pushed to extremes their behavior can change as a result. If Alpha’s actions put the Whisperers at risk it’s one thing, but should she start sacrificing Guardians in her personal vendetta against the people who corrupted her daughter, don’t expect Beta to stand by and watch without making a move.

Of course, when the rest of the Whisperers find out that Alpha lied about Lydia, well, all bets are off.
