There have been many great villains to appear on The Walking Dead over the years but has Alpha done enough to be considered the best of the worst?

Over the course of nine and a half seasons, The Walking Dead has put its survivors in some of the most dangerous positions imaginable. Many threats have attempted to take the lives of important characters but have failed to this point.

Walkers may be deadly, but one thing this show has taught fans is that humans are scarier and even more threatening than the undead. And some of those individuals choose to be ruthless rather than helpful and compassionate in the apocalypse.

There have been some great villains over the years and arguing which one is the best can be a lot of fun. So, let’s see what our panel of The Walking Dead experts have to say on the topic. Here is what they had to say:

Sara L. says

Alpha is definitely the best villain of them all. I would classify Negan as more of an anti-hero, and people like the Governor are good villains, but lean of the side of being unlikable because they have a bad attitude or are just an overall jerk. As a person who just loves the dynamics of a good villain, even I didn’t like the Governor.

Alpha and the Whisperers are on a totally different level, you never know what to expect next. They are truly terrifying and ruthless with no boundaries. They are incredibly fascinating and I want them to stay around simply because I want to learn more about them. There is just something unique about not being able to predict a person’s actions or thoughts.

Joe says

While she has only been around for about a season now, Alpha is already at the top of my list for the best villain from The Walking Dead. I absolutely despise her and hope she meets a terrible end at the hands of our favorite survivors – that’s the sign of a good villain.

It would have been very easy for the show to portray the Alpha as outlandish and cartoonish, but instead she is shown to be unpredictable and all-around terrifying. A lot of credit has to go to Samantha Morton for making Alpha such a success on the show.

Adam says

I suppose it all depends on your definition of what a “villain” truly is. While I love how brutal Alpha can be and her power over the Whisperers, there is still a part of me that still wants to call Shane the best baddie ever on the show.

There’s just something about the way Rick and Shane would go head-to-head on issues and some of the great scenes Shane had with Dale when talking about sensitive issues. It’s a completely different kind of villain from Alpha, but Shane is just more grounded and was fighting for a cause cleaner than Alpha’s.
