2. Finally getting to Carol

Daryl comes up HUGE in this episode in many ways and one of the biggest was his conversation with Carol in the cave. Her desire to hurt Alpha so much and beg for mercy before killing her has given the survivors some big problems in the past, but that might not be as big of an issue anymore.

When Carol was talking to Daryl in the cave, the tone changed. Daryl was understanding and listened while Carol talked about what was going through her head and why she is so bloodthirsty for revenge on the Whisperers.

He reminded Carol that he’s got her back but they need to know that they’re “on the same team” when things go down. And while it’s completely understandable that Carol has been so focused on revenge, it seemed that finally sunk in. But it didn’t.

Carol’s breakdown in the cave was about everything. The loss of Henry, the trouble she caused at the quarry, the meeting with Alpha, and even the situation in the cave. It was when Magna and Connie were trapped inside the cave after an explosion because of Carol’s actions that she finally accepted blame for her deeds, even if Daryl wouldn’t validate her revelations.

It’s a shame it took so much, but hopefully Carol can work through her issues now that she’s owned them and be the character we all love again. If nothing, the scenes shared with Carol and Daryl were powerful…and hard to watch at times for that very reason.
