2. Some excellent acting performances

Fans who have come to expect great acting in episodes of The Walking Dead are in for a real treat. The usual excellent performances from individuals like Melissa McBride, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, and Samantha Morton but there were some other big performances in the midseason premiere.

This was a meaty episode for Daryl Dixon and it saw Norman Reedus step up and give what is possibly his best acting of the entire series. His scenes with Carol and the way he interacted with the other survivors in the cave were excellent and showed that Daryl is capable of much more than just action scenes and grunts.

Some characters shined in smaller roles as well. Characters like Connie, Kelly, and Jerry were all captivating in their performances and lent well to the story being told in an episode that reminded fans AMC’s zombie show is about a lot more than just fighting the undead.

The Walking Dead always seems to get their casting right. Episodes like this which put a spotlight on some characters which haven’t been utilized much in the past highlight the great decisions they have made and prove why the series can keep such a great number fans this deep into its run.
