The rest of the group jumps into action, fighting off the Whisperers who are attacking. Once they have been dealt with, they follow the path they came from to see how they got in. Aaron says they know they have an exit. Jerry finds a “road sign” in the form of an arrow directing the path. They travel on, sticking close to each other.

Negan finds Alpha using the Whisperer latrine and naturally has to make a joke about “butting in.” (Incidentally, the first appearance of a latrine on the show?) Alpha says the latrine is a matter of hygiene, not privacy.

Negan says he just wanted to talk. He has an alternate theory about the spy issue. Rather than blaming the people on the outskirts of the territory, he thinks the spy is on the inside. He tells her that he has been where she is and if she wants to avoid the fate he experienced she should listen. He tells her that he had a system, but when you’re a king (or queen) having people telling you what you want to hear, then you get comfortable. She asks who he thinks it is. He says it’s not Beta, who is too loyal, and instead he thinks it’s Gamma, who is close enough to Alpha and the outsiders.

Alpha thrusts her knife between Negan’s legs and tells him that she will take his junk if he keeps spewing paranoia. He falls backwards into the latrine.

Back in the cave, Daryl follows the footprints on the ground and realizes they have the right path.

Carol is really struggling and so Connie goes to her and spells “U R OK” into her hand. The two women share a smile with a deep breath they keep moving.

They have to pass through a particularly tight spot and it’s hard for all of them, including Jerry, who has a lot of gear on. Part of the way is a slide on their stomachs. Jerry jokes that he had trouble fitting into airline bathrooms, too.

Daryl makes it out first and he guides everyone else with the sound of his voice. Carol is struggling to breathe through the tight squeezes. Daryl has to turn back to find her, asking if she is hurt. He shines his light for her and tells her to follow it. He tells her that she’s ok and they will get through it together. Eventually, she makes it out and he pulls her out.

Jerry, however, is having trouble. He tells everyone to be quiet for a second and realizes that there are walkers behind him. He’s at the end of the line so he has to wait for everyone to make it through. When he gets to a particularly tight space, he realizes that he won’t fit through the hole. Connie, Kelly, Magna and Aaron make it out, but Jerry is stuck.

Daryl reaches for him as the walkers are at his feet. Aaron tells him to take his gear off, and the extra space gives him the room he needs to make it out. Daryl stabs the walker coming through the hole.

Thankfully, the walkers didn’t manage to break through Daryl’s shoe.

Magna sees light and moves toward it, but she starts to slip into a hole. Daryl lights his walker arm on fire and drops it inside, discovering that the hole is full of walkers.
