1) DON’T underestimate hostiles.

One of the more telling (And, on some level, funny) things in this week’s episode of The Walking Dead was when Alfred, the last survivor of The Highwaymen, proclaimed to one of the Alexandrians that, since he, Margo, and Gage — The three of them — beat up Lydia, that meant all of the Whisperers were “wimps”.

…What a doofus.

I couldn’t help but laugh as he said that while Beta, this monster of a man, was lurking around the community, because what Alfred was saying was so opposite to what I was seeing, and I knew that he was going to be proven wrong in the worst way.

Sure enough, I was right.

Alfred’s problem, of course, was the fact that he genuinely believed what he was saying. He thought that the Whisperers, to a man, were wimps, because he and two of his friends beat up a teenager who had no hostile intent.

Sure, you may encounter a hostile or two that you wipe out easily, but, think about this: Is Ryan Hurst (The man who portrays Beta) computer-generated? No. He’s a real dude. Yeah, he’s just an actor, but, he’s real, and…he’s huge! Imagine running into an actual hostile as big as him! You think a guy that big is gonna be a wimp?

You can’t afford to do that in a zombie apocalypse. If you go around assuming that whatever hostiles you meet will be pushovers, you’re going to be laughing straight into your own grave.

NEVER underestimate an enemy, that way lies damnation.
