4) If hostiles are there…they’re tough.

Honestly, this makes perfect sense when you think about it: If you need to be tough to last any length of time in a zombie apocalypse, the same rule apply to hostiles. It stands to reason.

Part of this is mental. When a person is determined to survive, they will do whatever it takes to do that. I’ve seen this even without a zombie apocalypse.

If we look at Alpha in Sunday’s episode, for example, we watched her and Daryl kick the crap out of each other, but, in spite of that, and in spite of their serious wounds, they kept on going. Why? Because they were determined to do so.

Now, yes they’re fictional characters, but, I’ve seen people who’ve gone through war and battled cancer and just kept going. If you’re finding people who’ve lasted a while in the apocalypse, chances are good they’ve had their share of problems, injuries, and losses, and yet continue to carry on.

Earlier, I mentioned how a guy the size of Ryan Hurst could be a formidable opponent in the apocalypse, but, size isn’t everything. Samantha Morton is not an amazon by any means, but, you could just as easily find someone her size who is just as determined and just as capable of both surviving the apocalypse and posing a threat to you in it as you could someone the size of Ryan Hurst. The further along you go in the apocalypse, the more likely that any hostiles you do find will be that capable and threatening. The nature of surviving that long in the apocalypse practically guarantees that.
