Sunglasses can be a great fashion accessory but The Walking Dead star Norman Reedus has a different reason for wearing his shades on a regular basis.

Fans of The Walking Dead can’t get enough of Norman Reedus. His character Daryl Dixon is among the most popular on the AMC zombie drama series and he often draws massive lines at conventions just to meet him.

In addition, Reedus has his own show titled Ride with Norman Reedus that follows his motorcycle obsession and features guest stars from all walks of life exploring the globe and having great adventures along the way.

When not on the set, Norman Reedus is often seen wearing his trademark trucker hat and sunglasses. While the look is very fashionable, it also serves a major purpose for aiding the star in his everyday life.

According to a WIRED Autocomplete Interview on Youtube, the reason he is often sporting shades is due to an issue with his eyes stemming from an automobile accident.

"“I have really sensitive eyes. (With) Bright light, I just start tearing up. I always have,” Reedus said. “I was in a car crash in Berlin maybe ten years ago…no, before that…I was hit by a truck, an 18-wheeler truck and I went flying through the window of the car and my eyeball popped out. So, they had to put me back together and so I have a whole titanium eye socket right here and I have, like, four screws in my nose. But, ever since, bright light is…really bothers me. So, I wear sunglasses all the time.”"

There aren’t many people who can casually tell a story about getting hit by a semi-trailer truck, flying through the windshield, and having their eye pop out of its socket. However, hearing this story makes a lot of sense shading that bright light would save Reedus from discomfort and pain.

Fans will need to keep this in mind if meeting Reedus at a brightly-lit convention or seeing him outdoors on a sunny day. He’s not being standoffish by not removing his sunglasses, trying to keep comfortable so everyone can have a good experience.
