Jon Bernthal is set to headline and produce Showtime’s American Gigolo reboot.

Jon Bernthal has been very busy since he played Shane on The Walking Dead. He has starred in The Punisher and Ford v Ferrari and is currently filming King Richard where he plays tennis coach Rick Macci. He has many other projects pre- or post-production so we will get to see much more of him.  Next up he will not only headline but also produce Showtime’s American Gigolo series. Richard Gere was the original actor who portrayed Julian Kaye, now Bernthal will portray Kaye in a continuation of the story from the1980 film.

Jerry Bruckheimer will be the executive producer and David Hollander (Ray Donovon) will be the showrunner.  This project has been in the works since 2014. Seeing that Bruckheimer was the producer of the original film it will be good to have his direction in the new series.

The original film is a crime drama and the character Julian Kaye is a male escort, the high-priced kind. He gets involved with a politician’s wife, Michelle (Lauren Hutton) and soon finds himself the prime suspect in a murder case involving one of his clients.

The series is said to pick up 18 years after Kaye’s arrest and how he tries to acclimate back into the current day sex industry. He is also looking for the truth behind the set up of his arrest as well as reconnecting with Michelle, the politician’s wife from the original movie who he considers his one true love.

Bernthal has shown his diversity in the projects he continues to accept. Walking Dead fans have always been a fan of Bernthal. Not many were big fans of his character Shane Walsh but most fans do appreciate the acting he did on series. Shane was a hot-head and added a whole other level of drama to the series. One never knew what he would do next.

There is no release date yet for Showtime’s American Gigolo. Be watching for that and for all the other projects Bernthal is involved in.
