The Walking Dead, Survival Rule Of The Week: Sacrifice

5) You don’t get to choose to sacrifice others.

If there’s one thing Sunday’s episode of The Walking Dead taught us it’s that we all have to make sacrifices now and again. Something else we learned is that we don’t get to decide that someone else has to sacrifice for us.

However, it would appear that Alpha did not get that memo, because, she had become so devoted to the lifestyle she had created to deal with the apocalypse that she was willing to kill her daughter for it.

You see, the whole idea of sacrificing is that you give up something to benefit somebody else. If you’re sacrificing somebody else to benefit you, you’re doing it all backwards.

You’re not supposed to tell the rest of your group “You need to sacrifice yourselves to save me!” That’s not how it works!

At that point, it’s not a sacrifice at all…it’s just selfishness.

We all have to give up some things to survive in a zombie apocalypse, and, depending on the circumstances, some of us more so than others; Regardless, sometimes, it’s something we have to do. What you sacrifice is up to the situation you’re faced with, but, if you’re “sacrificing” others for yourself, you’ve gone too far.
