Season 10 episode 13 of The Walking Dead was a real trip. Despite all the craziness, did everyone make it out of “What We Become” alive?

The Walking Dead has been ramping things up in season 10 and the popular AMC zombie drama series were already warning fans that episode 1013 would be a huge one in the larger picture of the franchise.

“What We Become” focused primarily on Michonne and her quest to obtain game-changing weapons for her people with the help of Virgil. However, not everything went the way Michonne had planned when she agreed to the venture.

Did she make it out alive? What about Virgil and anyone else from the episode? Let’s take a look at the body count from season 10 episode 13 of The Walking Dead on Sunday, Mar. 22, 2020. Here is who died:

  • Some walkers

For what was being billed as Michonne’s farewell episode, there wasn’t much death. In fact, the majority of the episode focused on Vigil’s paranoia after losing his family and taking over a research facility.

The drama came in the form of drug-induced hallucinations. Virgil had given Michonne an apple that had been tampered with and gave her some altered visions from the past.

In those visions, she saw what would have happened if she hadn’t saved Andrea. It included Michonne not being picked up with her orange backpack by Rick and Daryl and eventually becoming a high-ranking official with the Saviors after being discovered by Negan.

In particular, there were a few things from these visions that were disturbing. Seeing Andrea’s body eaten by walkers was one thing, but perhaps the craziest was Michonne taking over in the lineup scene and preparing to bash someone’s head in with Lucille.

The closest to human death in this episode was when Virgil’s prisoners escaped and had the option to kill him, take him with, or let him go. Interestingly, the tortured people decided to spare him and even go along with them.

For an episode where nobody really died, it instead focused on hope. Michonne now has reasons to believe Rick may still be alive somewhere and her willingness to help an injured person get back to a large group of people means there could be hope for the couple to reunite in the future of The Walking Dead franchise.
