1) You are responsible for your own survival.

This might seem obvious, but, I think this is a principle that far too many people forget far too often.

When the apocalypse hits, we can not sit there expecting someone else to swoop in and save the day. Our lives are ours, not someone else’s, and if we want to keep them, we have to take responsibility for them, meaning that, effectively, our choices are a matter of life or death.

If you make a bad decision in the zombie apocalypse — Carelessly stumble into a zombie-infested building, for example — whatever disaster befalls you at that point is on you. You will have created the mess, and, it will be up to you to get yourself out of it.

With that in mind, you can’t be frivolous when making decisions; If you’re going to do something you need to be aware of the stakes you’re playing with. You can’t just do something reckless and then say to yourself “What’s the worst that could happen?”.

It’s your life, and, ultimately, you are the one responsible for maintaining it.
