The Walking Dead episode “Walk With Us” introduced a new powerful alliance between Negan and Carol. It might garner mixed reactions among the communities, which could put the communities at even more risk.

Though he is one of the most polarizing figures in the history of The Walking Dead, in “Walk With Us” Negan was revealed to have an alliance with one of the most beloved characters: Carol. Negan was essentially a hired bounty hunter to preserve the safety of the communities. He finally came through and took Alpha out, providing her hear to a satisfied Carol.

The truth is Negan has proven himself to be trustworthy for a while now though he continues to be a controversial character. He saved Judith during the winter storm and even helped a vulnerable Aaron. However, no matter what he does the truth is the survivors will always find a reason to not trust Negan.

Aaron is one of the key survivors who showed a deep distrust when it comes to Negan. The survivor pulled out his blade, ready for a fight to take Negan out, but he was interrupted because of nearby walkers.

It shows that even with how cooperative and some of the good things that Aaron witnessed, it doesn’t seem to matter. The former leader of the Saviors will always be known as an enemy to some degree with unhealthy paranoia fueling the distrust.

When adding Carol to the mix, things become even more complicated. She has had a rocky relationship with other survivors because of her decisions. She had a  tense confrontation with Yumiko over the disastrous results of her mission. Lots of people had gotten hurt, killed, or almost killed while they tried to neutralize the threat.

She didn’t let anyone in on her plan, not even Daryl. She kept all of them in the dark the whole time, which will make it harder for most to forgive her. Carol’s actions probably would have been forgivable with minimal casualties, but the truth is that Hilltop went up in a blaze at the hand of the Whisperers.

Things get more complicated when it comes to Daryl, her best friend in this broken world. Carol has messed up a lot up to this point and Daryl is more likely to forgive than any other survivor. Other survivors may be on the fence, but Daryl will have her back even with Negan as part of the equation. Daryl may not fully forgive Negan for all he has done, but he has proven that of all the survivors, he can put the past behind him and hear Negan out.

That will be critical going forward because Carol and Negan have already achieved their goal, but being content and boasting about their achievement is not an option. The threat of the Whisperers is still a large problem with the second in command Beta taking over full leadership with renewed vigor when he finds out what happened to Alpha.

The last thing the communities need is to be focused on the fact Carol and Negan had a secret alliance. If they don’t get over it, then they will lose more people than they have already lost. It may make it much easier for Beta to rip through the group once more.
