Hilarie Burton Morgan is a kind-hearted soul, and she is working hard making homemade masks for healthcare workers.

Jeffery Dean Morgan’s wife, Hilarie Burton Morgan, is well-known for her generosity. And now, with the current situation with COVID-19 outbreak and the high demand for fabric masks for healthcare workers and patients, Burton Morgan has started making face masks and is encouraging everyone to lend a hand in what she calls the “no excuse sewing club.”

Burton Morgan has always been active in the community. She has a charity called High School Forever that benefits her alma mater by funding extracurricular activities, and she oversaw renovations of Astor Services for Children and Families residential treatment facility in Rhinebeck, New York.

She has provided the following link that has instructions on how to make the masks and she even offered step by step instructions in this Instagram post:

Many of her followers have commented that they would be making masks as well, and health care works and first responders have commented with their appreciation for all her efforts in this project.

In a Twitter post, she shares another variation on the pattern.

She has even shared video tutorials on Instagram explaining how to make the masks. These masks can be sanitized and reused. A pocket is sewn so that a disposable filter can be placed in the pocket and disposed of after use. You can use dry wipes, HEPA filters, or a high-grade furnace filter in the pocket.

Keep in mind these are made to wear over the approved N95 hospital masks that are in high demand. The homemade mask is worn over this approved protection and can be re-sanitized and reused. These are not as good as the approved protective wear but still better than a bandana or nothing at all. Patients are also able to use these masks while receiving care, and the approved protective mask can be saved for health care workers.

Craft and fabric store Joann has a mask project as well. Some locations are giving out supplies to make the masks. Check their website for more information.

Bravo to Burton Morgan for not only encouraging others to help but setting the example and getting right in there and doing the work also.
