The Walking Dead 1014 contained some of the most mind-bending moments to date. Who rose within the chaos and is worthy of the MVP crown?

In The Walking Dead season 10 episode 14 “Look at the Flowers”, many different characters were strugglingL Carol was haunted by her demons taking the form of Alpha,” Daryl struggled with whether he could trust Negan. Eugene, King Ezekiel, and Yumiko had to say goodbye to their best friends as they embark on a long journey, which created a somber tone for the rest of the episode. This episode was riveting and incredibly fascinating and set apart one character from the rest.

This week’s MVP took a very dark moment that would normally damage someone’s psyche beyond repair and used it as a way to push forward.

This week’s MVP is Beta!

Beta might not be a good guy, but that doesn’t mean he’s not the hero of his own story. Viewers need to take a step back and look at what Beta managed to accomplish while dealing with the passing of his Alpha. As we saw in the Whisperer’s origin story, the creation of his mask was a very traumatic event for him, only with the help of Alpha could he move on.

This week Beta showed some emotions, which is arguably scarier than his rage, and he managed to pick up the pieces of his shattered heart and become stronger than ever. Beta is a sick individual with no normal humanity left in him, but he does care about Alpha and the Whisperer’s beliefs. Both of those were tested in this episode.

First, he is forced to see Alpha’s head displayed on a pike, then he has to deal with other Whisperers having their own opinions on who to follow next. In the end, he is able to put down Alpha’s head, and absorb her energy and add a part of her to his mask, thus carrying on her legacy. He could have simply moved on by claiming the Whisperer throne, but instead he decided to do right by Alpha and avenge her death.

Beta also managed to face and fight past demons. He recognized his former life as a famous country music star, and he ended up using the music he made in the past to draw a walker horde of monumental numbers to him in the present. It’s not often characters of any kind that are able to use their weakness as a catalyst for power. When the episode ends we see him leading this horde right to the survivors.

If Alpha could see him, she would be so proud.

This week our two honorable mentions are Alpha and Yumiko. While Alpha is now dead, her reanimated head and the fake hallucination managed to propel two characters forward. This is a rather unconventional pick, and couldn’t claim the crown based on the fact technically the two characters were listening to their inner monologue. Seeing Samantha Morton again was great after losing her in episode 1012.

Yumiko also managed to secure her place as an honorable mention based on her actions in this episode. She kept a level head, was constantly making sure the group was secure and talked King Ezekiel out of a dark place. Both picks fall short to Beta, though, as it seems he is in his prime. He’s certainly a character fans need to be very cautious about going forward.
