The Walking Dead: Where the heck is Connie?
Connie has been missing since The Walking Dead mid-season premiere. Though Magna made it out of the cave alive, Connie is still missing. Where is she?
Where the heck is Connie? There, I’ve said it. I’ve been holding that in for weeks now and as we approach the [new] season 10 finale of The Walking Dead it has been on my mind a lot. Will we see her before the end of the season? Will she show up in 1016, whenever that may be? How long must fans wait until they learn of Connie’s fate?
When Magna showed up, alive and (mostly) well, it was a momentous occasion because she survived. She made it.
However, her presence demanded a follow-up question: If Magna made it out alive, where was Connie?
According to Magna, they were separated in the chaos and they lost sight of each other. With the undead bearing down on her, Magna was forced to flee in order to make it out alive, leaving her friend’s fate in question.
At present, Connie’s predicament is much like that of Schrodinger’s Cat: She is alive and dead, and fans won’t know for sure until she has been found.
Where Has Connie Been On The Walking Dead?
If I had to bet on it, Connie is still in the cave. After all, if she wasn’t in the cave then resourceful Connie would have been spotted by now.
There is the outside possibility that Connie made it out of the cave already and somehow ended up in Oceanside. Since fans haven’t seen Oceanside since the first half of season 10, and since the radio equipment at Hilltop was destroyed, if she did indeed make it to Oceanside then it’s likely that no one knows that she’s there.
The other possibility that Connie is still stuck in the cave. Unfortunately, this is the more likely possibility given the circumstances. If ever there was an upside, though, it is that only a few days have passed between the mid-season premiere and episode 1014. That means that if Connie survived the cave-in, she could still be alive even if her food and water sources are limited.
It’s quite possible that the Whisperers stashed supplies in the cave, and there is also a chance that there were limited supplies from when the whole group was trapped.
Either way, food and water shouldn’t prove to be much of a problem for Connie…for now. Obviously, the longer she is trapped, the less likely she will be to make it out on her own because she won’t have the energy to fight her way through any remaining walkers and any Whisperers still at the cave’s entrance.
Connie’s absence is both agonizing and frustrating. Getting trapped in a cave is bad in the best of circumstances, but being trapped as the war was breaking out made it even worse. Rather than her rescue being the focus of everyone’s attention, the group had to rally together to fight the Whisperers and flee Hilltop when it fell. Connie’s fate, agonizingly, has largely been left by the wayside.
As fans we know that the immensely talented Lauren Ridloff needed time to work on the upcoming Marvel movie Eternals, hence Connie’s absence from the show. While many fans speculated that her character would be killed off, writers left things open-ended.
This is both a blessing and a curse, especially given the current circumstances. With filming for season 11 delayed indefinitely, if Connie doesn’t show up by episode 1016 then there’s no telling when fans will learn her fate and that will be frustrating.
Though Ridloff has only been on the show since season 9, she has made a huge impression as Connie and she has inspired the fandom. Many fans (myself included) have been inspired to learn American Sign Language or have attempted to decipher signs to gain insight when ASL is used in the show.
Hopefully Connie’s fate on The Walking Dead is revealed soon. With the hiatus looming and no sense of when the show will resume, the thought of not knowing what happened to her is unbearable.
