Danai Gurira celebrated her last episode as Michonne on The Walking Dead in season 10 and these are her top 5 moments on the show.

Michonne’s journey on The Walking Dead seems to be over for now after she found several clues that led her to believe that Rick is still alive, so she decided that she must find out one way or another. So now it’s time to honor Michonne and take a look back at her top 5 moments while on The Walking Dead.

Over the course of her 7 years on the show, Michonne has given fans so many incredible memories, both sad and happy. She has given fans goosebumps with her katana skills and her words of wisdom will surely be passed down to the next generation of survivors in the apocalypse.

Here Are Michonne’s Top 5 Moments on The Walking Dead

5. “Biter Gram for Merle”

Season 3 featured Michonne’s introduction and she immediately found herself in a conflict with the villainous Governor and his army. One member of his army was a familiar face for fans: Daryl’s brother Merle.

Right off the bat, Merle and Michonne were not destined to get along despite Andrea’s wishes to make their stay in Woodbury work out. Soon after Michonne was allowed to leave the secured community, Merle and a few other members of the town hunted her down to kill her. They came across pieces of a walker, or “biters” referred to by the Woodbury members. The arms and legs from the chopped up walker spelled out a message to Merle and the rest of the crew “go back” but the word back was spelled with the back of a walker.

Needless to say, it was pretty clever of her to leave that message. It not only showed off her wittiness but also how much of a warrior she is to warn those men not to mess with her. This was only a small excerpt of how awesome she would be over the course of the next 7 seasons.

4. Saying goodbye to Carl

The Walking Dead fans were shocked when they found out that Carl was bit by a walker trying to save Siddiq in season 8. It was tough to say goodbye to a such an important character. It was equally tough for Michonne to say goodbye to someone whom she grew to love.

They had a rocky start to their relationship but as they got to know each other, they became best friends. As a matter of fact, that was one of the last thing Carl ever said to her was that she was his best friend. As tears filled everyone’s eyes during the mid-season premiere in season 8, Michonne had to say goodbye to her best friend Carl.

After they buried Rick’s son, one of the small canopies that he would sit was on fire and she would not leave until they extinguished the flames. It was really tough for Michonne to deal with losing yet another child to the apocalypse.

3. Richonne

It seemed inevitable that Michonne and Rick would get together at some point on The Walking Dead.

Back in season 6 after a long day and a failed supply run (thanks to Jesus), Rick and Michonne finally took their relationship from friends to lovers. They instantly became couple goals with that one kiss, and of course what came after.

Together Richonne would go on to rule Alexandria and become the power couple on the show.

2. Helping Carl get the family photo

When Lori gave birth to Judith in season 3, she unfortunately didn’t make it and Carl had to put her down. It was a sad moment for the Grimes family but what was equally sad was that Judith would never know what her mom looked like. Being on the run for the last year between season 1 and 2, the group didn’t think to bring all the pictures because when walkers raid your camp, that is the last thing on your mind. However, a supply run into Rick’s old neighborhood would solve that.

A restaurant nearby had a photo of Rick, Lori and Carl in it and Carol decided that he needed to get it so Judith would never forget what her family looks like if that day ever comes that she is the only member of the family alive. Young Carl was adamant to get the job done himself without Michonne’s help. She would not let him go at it alone and it was a good thing she looked after him because there were more walkers in the restaurant for both of them to handle.

This is where Michonne really started to solidify herself as a member of the group by going back in there to get the picture for Carl and Judith. As a matter of fact, it was Carl’s proclamation to Rick when they were getting ready to head back to the prison that she is one of them now.

1. Showing up to the prison

Before she fell in love with Rick, developed a lasting friendship with Carl, taking over as Judith’s mom and becoming a lifelong family member to rest of the group, Michonne was just a stranger who showed up to the fences at the prison with baby formula.

Glenn and Maggie went on a run to get more food for Judith and were eventually captured by Merle and taken back to Woodbury. Instead of moving to someplace safe, she decided to head to the prison and help a baby she doesn’t even know. That says everything about the person she is.

Even though Michonne was still quiet and reserved while she healed, this was the first step in developing friendships and bonds that would last a lifetime. It was that one decision that would eventually lead to many more moments and memories.
