Back in the forest, Lydia pets one of the cats that wasn’t intimidated by Dog. Judith sees her (while Negan watches from the kitchen) and comments that she thought all of the cats left. She apologizes about losing her mom but Lydia says she doesn’t have to be. She doesn’t miss her, either. Lydia tells Judith that not everyone gets to have a mom like Judith’s, and Judith turns away with a quivering lip. Negan watches and knows they are both hurting.

Carol walks out with Kelly to where they keep the horses and says she’s going on an errand for Luke.

Out in the woods, Judith kills a walker to vent her frustration. Daryl finds her and asks who she is with, but she admits she’s alone. (Though she left a note for Gabriel) She doesn’t like being cooped up in the cabin and wants to learn what Daryl does. He refuses at first, but she refuses to go back. He relents and explains that he walks around the perimeter looking for things that don’t belong, and then he calls them in. He warns her that there is no room for error, and he makes her promise that she will stay with him.

Beta pauses in his march, telling his followers that this is all wrong. He knows they expected them to come here, and something isn’t right. His new lieutenant says they will always follow him, and he almost kills her when she calls him Alpha, but the voice in his head tells him to be patient while the way is revealed to him. They keep walking.

Aaron and Alden report that they’re heading back to Oceanside but they will follow them.

Princess leads the group to a field, where she tells them to watch their step. She promises it will be worth it. She begins counting as she walks, and Ezekiel admits that Yumiko might have been right about her being crazy.

Eugene asks about her system of navigation but she stops when she finds a horse’s head. It wasn’t walkers, it was one of the mines. She led them into a minefield. They’re furious, but she says she always walks through with no problem, they just distracted her. She empties her canteen and tosses it, and it blows up. “Anyone have an extra canteen?” she asks.

The horses watch as Carol and Kelly sit in the car. Carol struggles to pull the wires out of the dash and Kelly reaches in to help. Carol thanks her for her help and for coming with her. She apologizes to Kelly for everything, but Kelly says her sister isn’t dead. Connie will survive anything. She admits that she might not be able to accept she’s gone, either. She tells Carol that she understands why she did what she did. She tells her the story of when she lost her hearing, Connie told her it was a superpower and not a weakness. And now, everyone is learning sign language because of her.

Kelly says she has heard the stories of Carol in the old days and how Carol was known as the one who would do what no one else could do. “Lone Wolf,” she says. That’s Carol’s superpower. She tells Carol she can’t give up who she is when things don’t work out, because it was meant to be that way.

Negan finds Lydia and Dog and offers her some food, noting that she hadn’t met all day. She says she’s good, but he thinks there’s something else. She admits that she’s avoiding him, and she doesn’t want his rat stew, but he points out that it’s opossum stew and he liked her mother, for what it’s worth. She did terrible things but he did like her and he wishes he didn’t have to do what he had to do, and Lydia should say what she needs to say. “Most of us wish he’d have died, too,” she says, walking off.

It is raining when we see Princess still in the middle of the field trying to count her steps. Ezekiel admits this is a new thing for him as they deal with Princess and her colorful ways. Eugene says they’re running out of time because walkers are approaching, and when a few walk onto a mine it sets off a chain reaction.

Ezekiel goes up to Princess and tries to make her feel better by telling her that getting them out of this will go a long way. She picks a direction and starts walking, and it works out for them. They follow her and make their way out.

Back in the woods, Daryl tells Judith that the hunter moves and everything moves around it. He tells her to look around and she finds skin on a tree. He asks if it’s alive or dead, and she knows it’s walker skin. They come across more walkers, but Daryl shoots the Whisperer with them. She runs off and Daryl and Judith kill the walkers before giving chase.
