A trailer for Fear the Walking Dead season 6 dropped during The Walking Dead season finale and it might hint toward the return of a fan favorite.

The rule of thumb in The Walking Dead Universe is that if you don’t see a body, then you can’t be sure that a character is dead. When it comes to Fear the Walking Dead, the supposed death of Clark family matriarch Madison has been a key issue among fans, but a new promotional teaser for season 6 could hint at her return to the show.

AMC released a first look at Fear the Walking Dead season 6 that features many of the characters in dire straits while under the control of the enigmatic Virginia.

The scene that has fans buzzing takes place at approximately 0:15. There is a shadow-encased figure sitting in a jail cell, and from the silhouette it looks like it could be Madison Clark.

By all accounts, Madison Clark’s story was hitting its peak at the start of season 4 as she built a safe haven at the ballpark for her family. Things were going along well until the Vultures arrived, using their spy, Charlie, to infiltrate the group and report their weaknesses. Madison seemingly sacrificed herself so that Alicia, Nick, Strand and the others could make it out of the ballpark alive.

Madison’s death was implied when she was surrounded by walkers with her back to a burning wall.

Then again, fans never saw her body.

No one went back (as far as fans know) to see that she died in the fire. After the explosion at the dam at the end of season 3, it wouldn’t be the first time the Clark family was separated by extenuating circumstances.

Madison’s return to Fear the Walking Dead is something that would be welcomed by longtime fans who questioned the decision to kill her off in the first place, especially knowing that actress Kim Dickens didn’t ask to leave the show. At the same time, Madison’s absence has served as the catalyst for Alicia to come into her own as a leader, so introducing Madison at this point would be intriguing.

It’s also worth noting that a return to the show could have been in the cards all along, as fans saw with Ruben Blades’ character Daniel Salazar, who disappeared in season 2 only to emerge in season 3, and then disappear at the end of season 3 and return in season 5. Naturally, Dickens and showrunners Ian Goldberg and Andrew Chambliss would not be able to discuss the story, so they would have to stick to her “death” as a red herring to keep her return a secret.

Only time will tell whether Madison returns in Fear the Walking Dead season 6. What do you think about the possibility of Madison’s return? Leave your thoughts in the comments section!
