1.U R O K

In “Squeeze” our group find themselves trapped in a cave when Carol runs after Alpha into a horrific underground trap. Faced with hundred of walkers crammed into the space around them, Daryl leads the group to try and escape by jumping over rocks, and climbing through tunnels and gaps in the rocks.

Connie is quick to notice that Carol is finding the situation harder than the others, and Daryl let’s her know that Carol is claustrophobic when she tries to brush it off. As their escape gets tougher and tighter, Carol’s struggle becomes more peaked and as others carry on ahead it is Connie who stops and checks on Carol.

In a scene which shows more than any other this season just who Connie is at her core, we see Connie use a distraction technique, encouraging Carol to close her eyes and concentrate on the words Connie spells out on her hand.

“U R O K”, Connie spells and Carol visibly calms and takes on Connie’s reassuring encouragement. It’s an incredibly touching moment, counteracting Magna’s expressed anger at Carol’s part in landing them all in danger. And it is made all the more significant when we know what comes after, as Connie is trapped underground in the rubble as the cave collapses under the dynamite Carol sets off during their escape.

It distills down into one short scene everything that makes Connie who she is. She is incredibly perceptive, always aware of those around her, and is always more focused on care than blame, wanting to ensure they bond together, not pull apart when things get tough.

Birthday love for Lauren Ridloff. light. Related Story

Now several episodes later, we still don’t know the outcome of those events. However, given the scenes of Connie we’ve seen this season; scenes which show her heart, strength and leadership, we can all only hope that her message is true. U R O K Connie, we hope.
