Walkaway Joe is a film starring The Walking Dead’s Jeffrey Dean Morgan that is set to release on May 8. The exclusive trailer has just been released, and from what we see in the trailer, this will be a dramatic film.

Morgan plays Cal McCarthy, a pool hustler who has abandoned his child. His son, Dallas (Julian Feder), embarks on a journey to located his absent father but runs into loner Joe Haley (David Strathairn). Dallas and Joe become friends as Joe feels he needs to keep the boy safe, according to Dateline.

The main characters, Cal and Joe, both seem to have pasts they are trying to run from.  In Dallas’ case, of searching for his father, a past he is running to. Cal, who seems nonchalant about the abandonment of his son, says, “You know, Joe, there ain’t no roadmap to being a daddy. We’re just doing the best we can…”
