Margo, Alfred, and Gage

I feel like it wasn’t that long ago that people were campaign to “get rid” of bullying, and you know what? I would laugh whenever I heard that. You know why? Not because I endorse bullying, but because, I find the idea of “getting rid” of as likely to succeed as “getting rid” of sand in the Sahara. I just plain don’t think it’s possible, and, if the real apocalypse would be anything like The Walking Dead, then, I would be correct, because the antics of Margo, Alfred, and Gage were “Bullying 101”.

Our best display of this was in this season’s fourth episode, “Silence The Whisperers”, where, first, Gage donned a burlap sack as a mask and tried to scare Lydia, before insulting her and calling her a “freak”. This is like something you’d expect people to do in high school. Following this, they managed to one-up themselves by cornering Lydia in between the town’s clotheslines and jumping her.

Not that I condone it, but, at least Gage is around Lydia’s age. Margo and Alfred, on the other hand, were adultswhat the hell are they doing beating up a teenager?!

You know, I honestly shouldn’t be that surprised by the behavior of any one them. Think about it: The Highwaymen, as much as I liked Ozzy and Alek, they were extortionists, so, going around trying to intimidate people is well within their wheelhouse, and Gage, as we learned last season, is the stereotype of a teenage jerk — Even before Rodney and Addy’s deaths, Gage was a dingus, getting bent at Henry for putting down a walker while they, Rodney, and Addy, were all drunk (Boy, what a great idea that was!) — so, him becoming an even bigger jerk should, really, come as no surprise.

What earns them a spot on this list is their jump from simply being asshats to their own little gang, intent on intimidating Lydia by force.

How far would they have gone had Negan not arrived to break up their attack? Would they have beaten Lydia unconscious? Would they have tried to cripple her? Kill her?! I didn’t see much in the way of restraint from them, suggesting that, had no one stopped them, they could have (And would have) caused Lydia irreparable harm.

If you let a bunch of jerks get together in the zombie apocalypse, there’s no telling how low they’ll go.
