Jeffrey Dean Morgan’s new talk show with his wife Hilarie Burton Morgan gives fans a new way to interact with TWD cast.

The unprecedented lockdown throughout the country has hit the entertainment world hard. As networks scramble to find ways to engage fans while production on films and shows is halted AMC has hit on a winning format. Friday Night In With The Morgans debuts tonight and it will give fans an inside look at life on the Morgan’s Dutchess County, NY farm.

The show’s format is similar to what other talk shows are doing in this time of home-production. Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Hilarie Burton Morgan will talk to their friends, including some of The Walking Dead cast members, who will be streaming in through video to maintain social distancing. It’s a simple premise but it provides a valuable connection for fans who are missing seeing their favorite actors and also missing the sense of connection and family the show delivers.

The TWD Family has always been more than just a fandom. The show’s focus on surviving in desperate times has always been about the power of people working together to survive and create community so it makes sense that the fandom embodies that message of the power of community. And right now that sense of community is a lifeline for millions of fans who have become isolated by necessity.

Friday Night In With The Morgans is as innovative in action as it simple in design. The show leverages the power of social media to interact with fans and give them the chance to ask questions, make comments, and participate in the discussions that are taking place on camera. And with social distancing likely to play a part in the creation of TV and movies for a long time to come this type of immersive experience where fans get to interact with their favorite stars directly could become the norm.

An Authentic Connection

The Walking Dead has always managed to defy the standard TV tropes and break the barriers between the cast and fans. That’s one of the many reasons why the show has remained the top rated cable drama for a decade with millions of fans.

Fans are invested in the world that The Walking Dead has created but they’re also emotionally invested in the actors who bring the characters to life, and the writers who shape that world, and in everyone that works so hard to make TWD Universe. Friday Night In gives fans a peek inside the life of one of TWD’s most beloved stars and that kind of accessibility is exactly what fans need right now.
