Friendship bracelet fun

Ever since Carol cracked an oral sex joke at Daryl back at the prison in season 3, teasing banter has been the mainstay of Daryl and Carol’s lighter interactions. When they’re not tearfully hugging, they can often be found whizzing ripostes back and forth, and the premiere gave us plenty of this classic Caryl-banter.

When Carol returns from her time at sea, she and Daryl go off on his bike for a fun apocalyptic day out, filled with shooting competitions, salty put downs and sassy quips.

As they sit down for a chow and a rest, Carol threatens to put Daryl on his ass, and when he tries to cajole her into coming home from sea permanently, Carol teases him on his labeling her his “best friend”.

What follows is a silly scene that could have taken place in any junior high in America, with best friends who know each other inside out, getting all squiggly when it comes to defining their friendship.

Carol destroys Daryl’s tough guy image with jokes about friendship bracelets and sea shells, while Daryl counters with his much practiced act of eye-rolls and counter quips. It’s silly and sweet, and shows how these two use humor to deflect from talking about the depth of their friendship, oozes their infamous chemistry in droves, and – most of all – gives us a nice aperitif before the angst-fest of the rest of the season. God help us.
