Pink Princess

Comic fans have been waiting with impatiently with baited breath for the appearance of the much loved TV debut of Princess, and finally at the end of episode 14 “Look at the Flowers” she graced our screens, depicted by the stunning Paola Lazaro.

Just like her hot pink jacket, Princess lights up the screen and adds some much needed spark to the rolling ensemble. From her first moment on screen she’s a firecracker of fun, with her no-filter dialogue and exuberant reaction to actual living humans, it’s clear she’s going to be bringing lots of comedy in her every appearance.

Although episode 15 brought plenty of laughs with her follow the leader trip across the minefield, and unveiling of her “garage full of wheels”, it’s her introduction that seals the deal as a shining comedic interval in the gloom.

There is nothing that’s understated or underplayed in her explanation of her existence to Yumiko, Eugene and Ezekiel, but the moment she explains why she calls herself Princess – “because queen sounds old and pretentious”, is an absolute delight. And the punchline comes moments later when former-King Ezekiel’s staggering self-awareness as he introduces himself as plain old Ezekiel to his new friend. Ezekiel’s half-suppressed laughter is really an echo of what the audience is feeling at home.

Not since Tara has a character oozed such humour in their every utterance. Princess, without doubt, promises to raise the laughter stakes in season 11, and we can’t wait.
