1) Create a distraction

This might sound like a stupid idea, but, I’m imagining that, if you’re in a situation where the odds are stacked against you, it would probably involve you and/or your group being confronted by a large mass of zombies, and I think the best chance (or, at least, the one you’re most likely to be able to achieve) for escape is to give said zombies something else to go after.

What could this distraction be? Well, almost anything, really. Nearly anything that makes a lot of noise, produces a lot of light, or generates a lot of movement can serve as a perfectly fine distraction to use against the dead, so long as it gives you and your group enough time to escape and regroup (and doesn’t exacerbate your situation) should be fine for your purposes.

Off the top of my head, things like flares, fireworks, remote-controlled cars or planes, drones, egg timers (Enid’s old standby), Hell, if you could pop a bunch of balloons with a BB gun, that might do the trick! There’s a whole bunch of things that can serve this purpose if you use a little ingenuity.

As for hostiles, they’ll obviously be a lot tougher to distract, but, if you use some of the things I suggested (like the fireworks, for example), you may provide your enemies with a far more dangerous distraction, namely zombies that you may have drawn to your location by creating so much noise! Sure, you’d have to deal with the zombies, too, but, in that instance, the hostiles may prove the bigger threat, and, if you can force hostiles to have to fight you and the dead, it will give you a much better shot a surviving than you started with.
