The Walking Dead, Survival Rule Of The Week: Against the odds
By Liam O'Leary
2) Plan ahead
I know I say this all the time, but, the key to survival is preparation. This is true of any situation, but, in the case of these long-odds scenarios, it is especially true.
Let’s look at my previous suggestion about distractions. If you were thinking ahead, and had a go-to place to hide out in the event an army of hostiles or zombies were in the area, and needed a means to deal with your enemies should they find you out, the smart survivor would strategically place distractions in the surrounding area to be activated when the need arose. If you had small teams hiding out, preparing to activate stereos or fireworks or machines or whatever to draw the enemy away from your hideout or escape route, you’d be much more likely to make good on that escape than you might have been otherwise.
And, why stop at distraction? If you have the means to do so, and are suitably prepared, you could make any attempts at siege extremely costly for your enemies.
You remember the minefield Princess walked Ezekiel, Yumiko, and Eugene through? Man, if everyone back at the tower had that waiting for Beta, they wouldn’t need a miracle to save them, now would they? Hmm…
Remember, if you end up in a zombie apocalypse, there will always be a chance that you could find yourself caught in a situation where your odds of survival are slim, but, if you know this and plan for it, you can make your odds go up significantly.
Sometimes, we have to make our own luck.
