4) Avoid trapping yourself

Okay, I know it might be the only building big enough to house everyone from Alexandria, Hilltop, and Oceanside all at the same time, but…can we talk for a minute about how bad of a plan hiding out in the tower was?

I know I’ve addressed this problem before, but, if Beta’s horde got into the lower floors of the tower, how the hell would anyone get out? They’d have to try to push through a flood of zombies just to try to reach the ground! That’s not a good strategy…

Now, while I think it’s obvious that you need some kind of rendezvous point for your group in the event of a worst-case scenario, you need to find a better place than something like the tower. A skyscraper like that, while it does provide a good vantage point to see enemies coming (though, apparently, not good enough to spot Beta before he arrived!), it’s like a lone island, sitting exposed in a sea of zombies: Once you’re trapped in it, you have very little hope of getting out.

What you need to find is a place that provides you with either better defenses, or better escape routes, so that, if you should be discovered by zombies or hostiles, you can either make a reasonable stand (and not get completely wiped out in the process), or, be able to get your group out of dodge without just immediately exposing you to your enemies!

Don’t make things harder for yourself: Don’t walk into a trap!

Oh, while we’re at it (and, this seems like the best place to say this): I didn’t list “fire” as a suitable distraction for zombies earlier because, while it would work, huge numbers of zombies, plus you potentially being trapped, plus fire…don’t go together very well.

A zombie apocalypse will always be dangerous, but, sometimes, it can be so dangerous that, there’s a good chance you won’t make it out. However, if you use your head, have a plan, and don’t do anything stupid, you should have a hell of a lot better chance of surviving than you would have otherwise.
