The Walking Dead fandom wishes Austin Amelio a happy birthday

Austin Amelio, who plays the wonderful Dwight on both The Walking Dead and Fear the Walking Dead, celebrated his birthday on April 27th!

Austin Amelio has taken Dwight to a level that fans five years ago would never believe. When viewers first meet Dwight in season 6 episode 6 of The Walking Dead they discover a man who is very desperate to get his loved ones away from the life they are living. It’s a mission he fails. Now, as Amelio celebrates his 32nd birthday, Dwight is in a very different place.

The Dwight that fans meet in 2015 is very similar to the Dwight we have now. He has the same personality but over the years he has gained more confidence and direction, standing up for what he believes in. When he was on The Walking Dead, many viewers didn’t like him solely based on the side he was on, but this was a man who blurred the lines between good and evil. He often showed moments of humanity within all the darkness he was a part of.

When Dwight was banished by Daryl in The Walking Dead season 8, many viewers were upset because they felt his story wasn’t over. They felt this just added to the many injustices Dwight had faced over the years. Luckily this polarizing character made his way to Texas, ultimately joining our Fear The Walking Dead crew!

The Walking Dead had such a large cast with a focus on a select few that a story like Dwight’s could easily be overlooked. However, on Fear the Walking Dead Dwight fits perfectly into the group and gets ample time to shine. One moment fans beamed over was seeing Dwight smile for the first time! It ONLY took two shows, over a thousand miles, and five years to see Austin Amelio show off those pearly whites.

While the world may be struggling due to the current pandemic and Amelio can’t go out and party for his special day, that wasn’t going to keep his spirits down. He took to Instagram stories earlier in the day to thank fans for the birthday love and show off his skateboarding skills.

A simple post, yet one filled with respect and compassion for others during a time like this. It would be easy, with some states relaxing lockdown rules, to go out and post glamorous photos on your birthday yet Austin Amelio opted for a day in. The fandom is very lucky to have a person like this within the cast.

Since this pandemic has caused everything related to The Walking Dead to come to a halt, there is no longer a set date on when season 6 of Fear The Walking Dead will be released. The small teaser released shows Dwight in what looks to be a frantic state. The same fans sending out the birthday love to dear Amelio are the same cheering on Dwight and hoping for a reunion with Sherry. Fingers crossed for some light among all the darkness he has faced.
