He played the Otto brother you loved to hate on Fear the Walking Dead, and now the final season of Medici starring Daniel Sharman is coming to Netflix.

All good dynasties must come to an end. It was true of the famous Medici family and it’s also true of the Netflix drama that has followed the family’s exploits. The third and final season of Medici, starring former Fear the Walking Dead star Daniel Sharman, debuts on May 1.

Medici follows the exploits of the famed Italian family of the same name. The Medici had ties to banking, politics and society in 15th century Florence, giving them enviable amounts of power while placing a target on their backs as rival families jockey to take over control of the city.

Medici also stars Sean Bean, Richard Madden and Dustin Hoffman in a star-studded cast that transports viewers back in time to the full glory of the Italian Renaissance at its peak in the 15th century.

Fear the Walking Dead fans recall Sharman as the delightfully demented son of Jeremiah Otto, the patriarch and leader of Broke Jaw Ranch. Troy was Jeremiah’s younger son and Jake was the responsible elder son. The brothers had very different perspectives on the apocalypse, with Troy seeing it as an opportunity to utilize all of his doomsday prepper training to keep the ranch safe. Troy took a liking to Madison, who offered him the mother figure he never had, and he also formed a twisted friendship with Madison’s often troubled son Nick.

Troy Otto is a character who was gone too soon from the show, meeting his end in the second half of season 3. It would have been interesting to see how he functioned in the bigger apocalypse, away from the ranch and the ghosts of his father.

While he’s no longer on Fear, fans can binge the first two seasons of Medici before the new season arrives on Friday, May 1.
