Talking it out with Carol

As much as we all love Carol, it is undeniable that she has committed quite a few mistakes this season. Unfortunately for Lydia, she was directly involved in one of them.

Midway through season 10, Carol convinces Lydia to go out on the road with her. What Carol doesn’t tell Lydia is that she is using her to cause unrest in the Whisperer camp by revealing Lydia’s survival. This manipulation is the final straw for Lydia, and she runs off to be on her own.

It’s safe to say that when the two interact again, in a conversation before the Battle for Hilltop, things are pretty tense. Both sides are brutally honest in the exchange, with Carol saying that she is going to enjoy killing Alpha and Lydia at one point telling Carol, “I’m sorry your kid died and you hate the world.”

Even though Carol came off as intimidating at the start of the conversation, Lydia did not cave in.  When Carol asks if Lydia will hate her when she kills Alpha, Lydia simply responds with “I won’t be thinking about you.” Carol appreciates the honesty and both of them bond over the lack of that in the world they now live in.

Hopefully, these two manage to make amends in season 11. Considering that they both cared deeply for Henry and that both are close to Daryl, they should be able to find common ground and become friends.

After a lifetime of abuse and manipulation from many of the adults in her life, it was empowering to see Lydia stand up for herself.
