5. Helping Hilltop

Upon the epiphany Eugene has following his conversation with Rosita, prior to leaving Alexandria, he decides to try and put his knowledge and skills to the test and makes his way to Hilltop. The first task he takes on is assisting in the construction, rebuilding and fortification of their walls.

This proves to be a very good decision as it allows them to fend off the Whisperers for enough time to get everyone evacuated from Hilltop once the battle commences. In addition to this, he uses some of the parts scavenged from the Satellite in order to boost the range on Hilltop’s radio communications system.

He has hopes of reaching out further into the world beyond their communities. The work he did may have also strengthened the connection between the other communities though we didn’t get much of a chance to see that prior to the battle.

He rigged up some electricity powered traps for the Whisperers and walkers that would be attacking Hilltop. It didn’t help nearly as much as they were hoping it would. But it still took some of them out in addition to giving them more time to prepare for the attack.

The wires also allowed the walkers and Whisperers to group up more and be dealt with in bulk rather than be too widespread for the small fighting force available to defend Hilltop at the time.
